Julie: What do you get if you cross art-journaling with scrapbooking?

Hi all.

So what do you get if you cross art-journalling with scrapbooking? Art-booking? Scrap-journalling? Well, watever you want to call it, I've been doing some of it ... and mine looks like this:

I suppose it's looser in style than regular scrapbooking and uses lots of paint and spray inks ... like a lot of art-journalling at the moment, but the inclusion of a photograph somehow keeps that scrapping element alive.

To start, I covered my page with various scraps of paper in various shades of pink, grey and brown.

Then, to tie them together I dry-brushed some areas with gesso and swept over others with Shimmerz Pearlz in 'Grey Flannel' .

'Grey Flannel' is one of my favourite colours of Shimmerz paints because, while it adds a soft, sheen to the surface it's also a very useable neutral shade which you can use over large expanses.

I love working in this style as it's so freeing and messy and my pages in this style seem to only benefit from the addition of more and more layers and additional details ... which is a lot of fun!

To draw the focus of my busy page to the photo, I framed it with lots of interesting and shiny bits and pieces [I think I must be part magpie!]. Which included Dew Drops gems in 'Hyacinth' and some lovely pink German Scrap: The same Artchix 'German Scrap' was used to frame two lovely ladies from an Artchix Image sheet which were the nearest lookalikes to me and HannahBanana I could find! And which of my projects lately could be considered complete without the addition of my current favourite stamp? Here's a touch of the very fabulous Lost Coast Designs 'Skulls' border:

Here I stamped the border again down my journaling block, then painted it out with my Shimmerz Pearlz for a more subtle effect and one which I could write over: So, that's the end of my scrap-journaling for the day. I hope I've given you an idea or two to try, whether you're an art-journaler, scrapbooker or none of the above.

Paint Can

We had bought lots of little presents for Liv's cousin Lucy and I thought it would be a good idea to cover one of the paint can's I had. Not pink this time but the paper was still very girly. And to bling it up i used lots of prima blank flowers painted with SHIMMERZ. (sorry about the quality of the photo's they seem a little blurry )

More of the flowers painted with the Shimmerz on the lid with more sparkle added in the way of Kaisercraft Self Adhesive Rhinestones.

I made a card to match the tin and just had to add some more flowers.

It's great to be able to co-ordinate the colours of any papers with the Shimmerz.I also love getting messy whilst painting the flowers as well lol.

A Little Bit Vintage........

I thought I'd go vintage with mine........

So I made the ATC cards into a book......

I cut a front and back using chipboard, the same size as the pages..

Covered the pages with some old K&Co Life's Journey paper and stamped them with dress forms from Lost Coast (Out of stock at the moment but keep checking!)

Added bits and pieces from the 'bit box'

Scanned some pages from an old needlework book and printed onto cream paper.

Added bits of lace

A Matchbox Card ...

Hello, this is Andrea and I'm here to sahre my Matchbox creation. I've loved seeing what the other girls have made and how different they have all been from the same starting point. I thought about this little matchbox for a long time and dithered about what to do with it but then I had a brainwave and it all came together quite quickly one morning

So, this is the outside, I used the Cosmo Cricket Delovely papers and a 7Gypsies handle

Inside is a concertina mini book with each 'page' spelling out the word Birthday

I thought it would make a lovely alternative to a birthday card and there is still room even with the book closed up to tuck a few trinkets and birthday memories inside

I used:

7 Gypsies ATC matchbox kit

Cosmo Cricket Delovely papers

Purple Onion butterfly and sentiment stamps

Nestabilities scalloped rectangle die

Stampin Up alphabet dies

Papertrey ink

and ribbons from The Ribbon Girl

Sounds like an episode of South Park or a good old british theatre farce. But no it's what ive done with my 7 Gypsies ATC Matchbox Kit.

We go caravaning a lot and every where we go we collect The Caravan Club counters.They have been sitting around the house and the caravan for ages and seeing this little box , I thought it would be ideal.



The perfect paper for this project just had to be Cosmo Cricket MR CAMPY and I couldn't get the paper without the stamps .

Jan: 7Gypsies ATC Matchbox- Birthday Book

Hi folks welcome to our Bank Holiday Matchbox Extravaganz. I just love it when we all get the same basic item and we're left to our own devices. This time it was a 7 Gypsies ATC Matchbox. Wow wasn't Julie's an eyeful!

I really had to think about what to do with mine but once I realised there were 12 blank atcs in the box an idea popped into my head. If you're like me I need reminding about special dates such as Birthdays or Anniversaries. So I made a Birthday Book.

I've covered the box with the gorgeous Cosmo Cricket Delovely papers and Dewdrops have been used to decorate the flowers.

I've decorated the ATCs with scraps to match the box.

Just to make sure I don't forget I'm planning to stand each month up in the drawer as a reminder.

So now I have no excuse to forget your Birthday!

Julie: 7Gypsies ATC Matchbox - For Men Only!

Hello you.

You know how you could give a room full of crafters the same basic ingredients to work with and there'll be as many different end results as there were crafters? Well, every now and again, here at Scattered Scarlet, the Design Team likes to put that idea to the test by all making a project using the same blank base to which we then add something very different ... our individual creativity.

In the past we've decorated the same bags and mini-canvasses and regularly use the same stamps to produce wildly different cards. [You can see lots of our examples by clicking on the 'Kit Projects' tab above ^^^ and by browsing through the other tabs too where all our projects are easily accessed.]

This time around we've been working with the same blank 7Gypsies ATC Matchbox [available in the shop now] and here's how I decorated mine ... vintage Americana style:

First I covered the outside of the box and the ends of the drawer with a black & white patterned paper from my stash.

I then brought in images from ArtChix and some pin-up girls from one of Southern Blackberry Design's Tissue Image sheets from the shop:Across the end of the drawer I used one of the Fancy Vintage Cigar Labels to add to my tobacco-smoking, whiskey-drinking, pin-up-girl-admiring theme!
Similarly the Purple Onion 'Warning Maybe Habit Forming' stamp seemed so perfectly appropriate to use across the front of the box: Once someone has decided whether or not they're going to heed the warning.... or else take the risk and open the box .... they'll be greeted by these lovelies:Here I glued my tissue-paper pin-ups on to each of the blank ATCs included with the 7Gypsies Matchbox. Once the glue was dry I gently sanded the surface to give an authentically worn feel.

The main background is a few pages of Asian text from an Alter That Ephemera/Collage kit . I aged the paper with a Distress Ink pad and then stamped some note blocks on it using the Purple Onion 'Labelers' stamp set :
