The Adventures Of A Mini Canvas ...

My mini canvas project started out life just the same as everyone elses but it wanted more from life, it wanted to be different, to stand out from the crowd. It wanted to stand up and shout "Hey, look at me! I'm different". It wanted to be SPARKLY!! Yes, my miniature canvas wanted Sparkles with a capital S!
And, by the wonders of modern technology - otherwise known as the application of a generous amount of Glossy Accents around all the edges of the canvas quickly followed by the dunking into a pot of Doodlebug chunky turquoise glitter my little canvas's dreams came true and he was SPARKLY and different and he stood out in a crowd ... and the other canvases in the room were secretly jealous of my little sparkly canvas. Ha! Even Jean wished she had a sparkly canvas!!

Now, everyone who knows me understands my passion for sparkle and glitter. Or perhaps I should say they they realise that a life without sparkle and glitter would be an unbearable life for me to live so they put up with sharing a crop table with me and my glitter. They realise that if they want to play with paper and glue and stick stuff together with me then ultimately they are going to be covered in glitter too :)

If you would like to make a mini canvas project like mine (or even like theirs) then pootle over to 3DJean and grab yourself a Canvas Project Kit, perhaps some extra canvases because you know you'll want to make more once you've made one and may I suggest also that you drop into your basket some of this gorgeous Jeni B Blue Shimmerz spray and tumbled glass Distress Ink because to be perfectly honest that beautiful turquoise colour is to die for - and it goes perfectly with glitter and sparkle!

Oooooooh, I just have to add (because I am currently pushing my overloaded shopping trolley down the aisles of Jean's shop) that these turquoise stickles and under the sea dewdrops would go perfectly with the shimmerz spray and distress inks I have already persuaded you to buy!!

Have fun and remember - Glitter isn't just for Christmas, it's for life *giggle*

Jan: Mini canvas

How gorgeous are these mini canvases?

I've painted mine with the silver crackle paint which was left over night to dry. Use a heat gun if you must but don't moan if you're disappointed with the crackle you've been warned!
Colour was added using a blue ink pad and once dry the paper image, wings and bling were added to complete this tiny work of art. I must confess they are very addictive.

It's a MINI CANVAS

These MINI CANVAS PROJECT KITS are now on the website , you get everything to make it for £4 and how do you do it?... well...............

Take the pot of Viva Croco Crackling Colour and spread it all over the canvas , dont panic if it looks thick , a thicker coat gives a better crackle.Leave a little inch square in the middle so that your chipboard piece can stick on flat. Allow this to dry overnight .You can use a heat gun but the end result is not as good by a long way (so if you are impatient , you have been warned lol)

When dry and cracked , spray with shimmerz until desired colour is achieved (I sprayed some on and then with a tissue rubbed colour in). Whilst this is drying choose image and stick on inchies chipboard and mount on paper , cut to size. Stick onto canvas and then add wings (I coloured my wings with pro markers but you can just leave them plain if you want)

Decorate with papers , gems etc. I made a crown out of the paper I used and then used stickles to bling it up even more. Now cut 6 pieces of the florist wire measuring 2cm long . Form a cross on each side of the image and poke through the canvas. With the 2 remaining bend into a "U" shape.

These need pushing into the top of the canvas. With the remaining florists wire bend into a hanger and thread through the 2 loops you have just attached at the top of the canvas.

This should now be finished , if you dont understand any of these instructions just leave a comment and one of the Design Team will help.

Over the next few days all the Design Team will be putting up a picture of their version of this MINI CANVAS

Lemon Curd

Here you go , and it's so easy , promise

You need 4 eggs , 4 lemons (grated rind & juice),4oz butter , 1lb caster sugar.

Put all the ingredients in a bowl and give it a good mix , then for the quick way (i always do it like this now) pop it in the microwave for 10 mins on high , but take out and give it a realy good beating ever 2 mins.

sieve into jar , keep in fridge and it will keep ok for 4 weeks ,thats if it lasts that long.

Not got a microwave then the bowl needs to go over a pan of simmering water. Stir until sugar has melted and curd has thickened. Then its done.

Makes about 1.5lb.

Why not try orange or lime just switch fruits

Enjoy.

Once upon a time!

Some of you may have seen some of my 'stuff' scattered through cyber space before and you will know I love things in boxes and shrine type things....... so here's an homage to the nursery rhyme Six little Mice.

Six little mice sat down to spin
Pussy passed by and she peeped in
"What are you doing my little men?"
"Weaving coats for gentlemen"
"Shall I come in and cut off your threads?"
"No no Mistress Pussycat you'd bite off our heads"
"Oh no I'll not I'll help you to spin"
"That maybe so but you don't come in!"
All the images are from 3djean and are coloured using Tim Holtz Distress pads. Using a wet brush, or water brush pick up some ink from the pad and use as watercolour. Cut out your images.. a bit fiddly! and mount them on the cotton reels using a bit of wire stuck to the back of the image and pushed into the reel.
The shaped background is cut using the edge dies from Tim Holtz.........

A plain and simple tag, though he does look a little lost!
Watch this space for more stuff.
Effie!

When I made it for the weekend away we had it came straight out of the oven and into my car , so we had teh smell of it all the way to the cottage, which was an hours journey.First thing we did when we got there was to pop the kettle on , ice the cake and eat it.

3 eggs

zest n juice 1 lemon

8oz SR Flour

it goes in the oven at Gas 3 or 160c in a 2lb loaf tin

put 4oz yogurt , 2tbsp lemon curd , butter , eggs , lemon zest , flour and caster sugar in a mixing bowl and mix until a nice lump free batter (you can do it by hand or electric , it's up to you )

bake for 1hr 15mins , when cool turn out and mix icing sugar with enough of the lemon juice to make a thick , smooth icing , spread over cake top.

Welcome

Welcome to Scattered Scarlet - the blog for all things 3DJean.co.uk.

Scattered Scarlet will feature projects made by the new 3DJean Design Team which features:

The five of us already know one another but if you're not familiar with us and are curious to know what kind of crafters we are, let me assure you that we're dedicated ... and here's the proof. I took this photo of the rest of the Scattered Scarlet Design Team, on our most recent crafty getaway: Before this was taken, as the light began to fade outside and we began to lose vital crafting minutes, we'd searched every inch of the holiday cottage and surrounded ourselves with every available table and lamp in order to be able to craft on into the night! And it's dedication like that that which obviously won Jean over and led to her inviting us onto her team!

We, on the other hand, were happy to accept her offer, just as long as she keeps us supplied with brilliant supplies ... and cake, which
she's more than capable of doing:

It's a good deal really!

Our deal to you is that we'll share with you lots of inspiring projects showing how we've used the out of the ordinary supplies Jean manages to fill her unique online shop with.

Do drop by again soon as we begin to add our creative projects but, until then, now that we've introduced ourselves why not:

  • leave us a comment below or;

  • become a Scattered Scarlet blog follower so we can get to know you;

  • drop by our individual blogs for an idea of what the Scattered Scarlet DT can offer you;

  • have a browse around 3djean.co.uk to see the latest additions to the shop [where else does the brand new Sassafrass Lass get to mingle with Alice in Wonderland stamps and vintage pharmacy labels?!], or:

  • think about any 3DJean supplies you already own which you'd like to see us feature in an upcoming blog project and either me, or one of the other fabulous Scattered Scarlet women will get on to it for you!

Until next time, happy crafting!

Julie
